Ultra violet is the Pantone colour of 2018. We looked into what you need to know about this colour, why it was chosen and what it is intended to stand for.

Since 2010, the Pantone Color Institute has chosen the colour of the next year, which will play a decisive role from home decoration through fashion to fine art. Two times a year, the company organizes a secret meeting to discuss colour standards. The choice is thus not random and is always related in some way to that particular year. The choice of the colour of the year was characterized by Pantone in 2016 as follows: it is a colourful snapshot of our culture that expresses our mood and our attitude. In connection with the choice of the colour for 2018, Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, said that “Pantone’s colour of the year is far more than just “what’s trendy” in the design world… We have chosen a shade that we think best expresses what is happening now in global culture. This colour reflects our collective state of mind”.

After several days of debate and discussion, the colour of the year is chosen, and is announced in Pantone View. This is bought mostly by fashion designers, florists, and other companies manufacturing creative products to get help and guidance for designing their future products.

“We live in a time where imagination and inventiveness are paramount. This creative inspiration appears in the shades of PANTONE 18-3838, a bluish purple lilac, which takes our vigilance and creative potential to a higher level,” says Leatrice Eiseman, CEO of the company. A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, ultra violet, has become the colour of 2018, which symbolizes originality, ingenuity and the future. Through its depth, the colour would like to encourage people to go beyond their limits and leave a trace in the world through their creative messages and to motivate the perception of uniqueness and a forward-looking way of thinking.

Interestingly, it has happened only once that no single colour could be chosen. As a result, two colours were chosen in 2016 and were named rose quartz and serenity.

Pátria Nyomda keeps new developments in mind and, combined with its 125 years of experience, it endeavours to serve its customers more and more extensively.
