After emerald in 2013 and brilliant orchid last year, the world’s leading colour authority, the US-based Pantone announced the dominant colour of next year in December 2014. In 2015, the colour of the year is the exciting and powerful, reddish-brown shade called Marsala.

It radiates self-confidence and stability, while also nurturing the body, the soul and the spirit, said the manufacturer of the Pantone scale that is used everywhere by graphic designers and printing houses and which contains spot colours. This warm shade got its name from an Italian red wine that is somewhere between burgundy and brown. It is in excellent harmony with the different colours, and perfectly harmonizes with the darker shades of either ivory or blue.

The colours elected as part of the “Colour of the Year” initiative launched in 2000 strongly influence trends in graphic art, applied arts, the fashion and beauty industry and in interior design. The rooms and accessories of the unique Pantone Hotel in Brussels were also made based on the colours of the scale using the leading shades of the past year. The boutique hotel also includes a special shop with souvenirs all shining in the favourite colours of recent years.
